AutoDrive: the automatic Slingshot
| โ๏ธ | AutoDrive is Polaris's automated manual: a real gearbox with a computer-controlled clutch โ two pedals, no clutch, no shifting required |
| ๐น๏ธ | Want control? Tap the paddle shifters for manual gear selection anytime |
| ๐ | If you can drive a regular automatic car, you can drive an AutoDrive Slingshot in 5 minutes |
| ๐ง | Introduced with the 2020 ProStar engine; a ~$1,750โ2,000 option when buying new |
The 5-speed manual
The classic Slingshot transmission is a 5-speed manual with a normal clutch pedal โ same as a stick-shift car, not a motorcycle sequential. Fun if you already drive stick, but it's one more thing to manage with your face in the wind. All 2015โ2019 models are manual only; AutoDrive didn't exist yet.
Which should you rent?
Our entire Miami fleet โ 2, 4 and 6 seaters โ is automatic. No clutch, no stalling at lights on Ocean Drive, no learning curve. You need only a regular driver's license (see the license guide), and if it's your first ride, the first-timer guide walks you through everything.

Automatic vs Manual โ FAQ
Is the Polaris Slingshot automatic or manual?
Both exist: a 5-speed manual, and since 2020 the AutoDrive automated transmission with no clutch pedal. Our whole Miami rental fleet is automatic.
Is AutoDrive a real automatic?
Functionally yes โ a computer operates the clutch and shifts for you, with two pedals only. Paddle shifters let you pick gears manually if you want.
Is a Slingshot hard to drive?
No โ an automatic Slingshot drives like a low sports car: steering wheel, gas, brake. If you drive a car, you'll be comfortable within minutes.
Do rental Slingshots in Miami require driving stick?
Not ours โ every Slingshot we rent is automatic. A regular driver's license is all you need; drivers must be 21+.
Which years of Slingshot have the automatic?
AutoDrive arrived in 2020 with the ProStar engine. All 2015โ2019 Slingshots are 5-speed manual only.
