Yes โ the Slingshot can get wet
The Slingshot has no roof and no doors, and Polaris built it accordingly: the cockpit is water-resistant, the seats shrug off rain, there are drain points in the floor and the electronics are sealed for wet weather. Rain will soak you, not kill the vehicle. Parked outside in a shower? It will be fine โ though a cover keeps the seats dry for your next ride.
Riding in rain: the real risks
| โ | One drive wheel: all the power goes through a single wide rear tire โ wet launches spin easily. Be smooth on the throttle and leave traction control ON. |
| โ | Hydroplaning: avoid standing water and painted lines/metal plates when wet; slow down before puddles, never through them at speed. |
| โ | No wipers on most models: the low windshield + rain = limited visibility. Rain-X style treatment helps; ride slower and leave extra distance. |
| โ | Gear: a light rain jacket and glasses/goggles turn a miserable ride into a fun one. |
After the rain
| 1 | Towel off the seats and let the drains do their job โ don’t leave water pooled |
| 2 | Don’t check belt tension within 24 hours of rain โ moisture skews the reading (see the Belt guide) |
| 3 | Parking outside long-term? A breathable full cover is the best $60 you’ll spend |
Rain & Wet Weather — FAQ
Can a Polaris Slingshot get rained on?
Yes. The open cockpit is designed to get wet: water-resistant seats and electronics, plus floor drains. Rain soaks the driver, not the machine. A cover is still smart for regular outdoor parking.
Is it safe to drive a Slingshot in the rain?
Yes, with care. The single wide rear drive tire spins easily on wet pavement, so be smooth with the throttle, keep traction control on, slow down and avoid standing water.
Does the Slingshot have windshield wipers?
Most models don't โ the low sport windshield has no wiper. A water-repellent glass treatment and lower speeds are the practical answer in rain.
What happens if my rental day is rainy?
Light rain rides fine with a jacket โ many renters love it. For severe weather, call or WhatsApp us at (786) 694-4178 and we'll work out timing with you.
Should I cover my Slingshot outside?
If it lives outdoors, yes โ a breathable full cover keeps seats dry, blocks UV and stops debris from collecting in the cockpit.
