Oil Change — FAQ
What oil does a Polaris Slingshot take?
2020+ models with the ProStar 2.0 engine take full synthetic 5W-50 (Polaris PS-4 or equivalent), about 6 quarts with filter. 2015โ2019 models with the GM Ecotec 2.4L take synthetic 5W-30 per the owner's manual.
How often should I change the oil on a Slingshot?
On 2020+ models, every 5,000โ7,500 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. On 2015โ2019 models, roughly every 6,000โ7,500 miles or annually. Ride hard or in heat? Lean toward the shorter interval.
Can I change Slingshot oil myself?
Yes โ it's a 15โ20 minute job with basic tools: drain, new crush washer, new filter, fill to spec and re-check the level. Dispose of used oil at any auto parts store.
What happens if I skip oil changes?
The ProStar is a high-revving engine โ old oil accelerates wear, can trigger low-oil-pressure issues and voids goodwill on warranty claims. It's the cheapest insurance the vehicle has.
Does the Slingshot need any other regular fluids?
Yes: angle drive fluid (80W-250, change at 50,000 miles), brake fluid and coolant inspections per the schedule, plus belt tension checks โ see our other guides for each.
