What does your Slingshot do when you press start?
Dash lights on, but it won’t crank
1. Press the brake β hard. The Slingshot won’t crank unless the brake pedal is pressed, and the brake light circuit feeds the starter relay. Quick test: do your brake lights work? If not, that’s your problem (switch or fuse).
2. Kill switch. Make sure the engine kill switch is in RUN. It gets bumped more often than you’d think.
3. Battery under load. A battery can show 12.6V and still collapse when cranking β load-test it or try a jump pack.
4. The 80A inline fuse link. Sneaky one: if it opens, the dash still lights up normally but the starter circuit gets no current. Check it before replacing anything expensive.
5. Starter relay. Listen for a click when you hit start. Click but no crank β starter or cables. No click β relay or its feed (see #1).
6. Key fob (2020+). Weak fob battery = no start. Try holding the fob right next to the console, or replace its coin cell.

How to jump-start a Slingshot safely
| 1 | Access the battery: left rear side, plastic cover with T40 Torx bolts β or use installed jump ports if you have them |
| 2 | Use a jump pack or a car battery with the car’s engine OFF |
| 3 | Connect positive (+) first, then negative (β) to a chassis ground point |
| 4 | Never reverse polarity β it can blow the main fuse or destroy the ECU |
| 5 | Start, disconnect in reverse order, then ride or idle ~30 min to recharge |
Parked for more than 2 weeks? Use a battery tender. The most common cause of repeat dead batteries is parasitic drain from aftermarket audio and LEDs (healthy draw: under ~50mA once the modules sleep).
Slingshot Won’t Start β FAQ
Why won't my Slingshot start even with a charged battery?
Test the battery under load β a battery can read 12.6V and still fail when cranking. Also check the 80A inline fuse link (if it blows, the dash still lights up but the starter gets no power), the starter relay, and the brake light switch: the brake circuit feeds the starter relay, so if your brake lights don't work, it won't crank.
Where is the battery on a Polaris Slingshot?
On the left rear side of the vehicle, under a plastic cover held by T40 Torx bolts. Many owners install remote jump-start ports so they never have to remove the cover on the roadside.
What voltage does a Slingshot battery need to start?
A healthy battery reads about 12.6β12.9V at rest. Below roughly 12.4V the Slingshot may click or crank slowly, and below 12V it usually won't start at all.
Can I jump start a Slingshot from a car?
Yes β use a car battery with the car's engine OFF, or better, a portable jump pack. Connect positive first, then negative to a chassis ground. Never reverse the polarity: it can blow the main fuse or damage the ECU.
Why does my Slingshot battery keep dying?
The most common cause is parasitic drain from aftermarket audio, LEDs or alarms. If the vehicle sits for more than two weeks, use a battery tender. A healthy parasitic draw should be under ~50mA after the modules go to sleep.
